I must have read the positive reviews and missed the negative ones—-and there were plenty of negative ones! This is a very run down, old, shabby motel which needs lots of help. The exterior has peeling paint and weeds growing everywhere. It looked like an abandoned property and we almost left even though we had already paid $100 in advance for one night. Inside, the rooms are shabby but relatively clean. The bathroom was fairly new and clean but the rest of the furnishings and the carpet and curtains are past their due date. Really only suitable for fishermen with low standards who just want a clean bed, although the beds were old and badly need replacing. We used our $15 voucher for breakfast and the restaurant food and service were good. Location is isolated and 15 miles from Homer. The hotel might be ok if you are a fisherman and just need a place to sleep, but for the rest of you, drive into Homer, pay a bit more and get a decent place! Homer lodging is mostly very expensive but there are a few good places which have reasonable prices. I wish I had followed my own advice.

This is a very mixed review of Anchor River Inn. The staff is very nice, and friendly. This includes the people in the office, restaurant and the maid (sometimes those was all the same person, as ARI wasn't busy).||We were given a $15 meal voucher per day, so that offset most of the cost of the good breakfasts we had in the restaurant.||But, the accommodations themselves leave a lot to be desired. The room is big enough, with two queen beds, but very dated. The window covering needed replacing--my wife made temporary repairs to keep light out. The carpets are very dirty, but maybe that's to be expected since you walk straight into the room from a very dirty parking lot.||All my clothes now smell very musty.

We stayed here to fish a few times, and it's nothing to brag about. But if your going down with the boys and looking for a bed it does the trick. The staff is limited, they normal have one person working the front desk, gift shop, and waiting tables in the restaurant. They have been nice and accommodating, since they don't have over night staff they met us at are room after midnight worth the key. |The restaurant inst bad, fair selection and good. Breakfast is good and you get a 15 dollar voucher per day for breakfast. They have a cook or catch option on the menu, but if you want to just buy a sea dinner, I would go to Homer. Over all for a boys weekend is fine, family vacation I'd keep looking. And don't, I repeat don't book here if your a clean freak.

Its obvious people that have connections to this place have been doing reviews on here. This is one of the worst hotels in Alaska attached to restaurant with bad food. Just drive a little further into Homer and stay ina decent place. Brown dirty faded carpets. They never clean the rooms, even after others have stayed in them. Toilet seat is broken. Very limited list of channels. Expensive. Rude staff. You'll get hot and cold showers if other rooms are using water. I could go on.

It was already 2pm and we hadn't had lunch so we stopped at the Anchor Inn Restaurant, “A decent little place.” Really? Who writes these reviews? We were in the “Halibut Capital of the World,” what better place to try Alaska's famous battered, fried “but bits”? We should have known better, the place was deserted and decorated with dusty, greasy, souvenir plates from as far away as Iowa. The halibut was dry, frozen and badly fried. The kicker was the server's meal, a steaming bowl of fresh clams.

My brother and I stayed two nights while in Anchor Point fishing. The room was clean and comfortable. There was a grocery store and package store a short walk from our room. The Anchor River Inn's restaurant was very good. The service was great and the prices were good.

If you just need a place to stay, that's reasonably priced, about 13 miles from Homer and not far from Ninilchik, Clam Gulch, and Deep Creek....or a place to crash when fishing the Anchor River, this is a decent option. Room with two queens is about $100 in summer with a $15 voucher for breakfast. Rooms are outdated but include a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and TV. Restaurant serves big portions of diner type fare. Understaffed if they are busy. Has a smoke-filled bar adjacent to restaurant.

Loved their clam chowder so much that we stopped for it 3 times in the 9 days we visited the area. We did stay one night at the hotel. It is a bit old fashion, but it was clean and they had laundry facilities, and a small gym.
