Bethel is a challenging environment for a hotel. Bethel is a location where expectations must match living in isolated expensive western Alaska. It has a good location for the hospital and library. The Long House staff were courteous and helpful. The furniture was okay, and their was some cleaning oversights - one table top needed dusting. The bathroom was clean. The rooms were functional over flair. I was able to sleep very well and did not hear a thing through the night. The restaurant connected to the hotel made the stay easier. I forgot to check out on time as I was working. They were courteus and gracious as I was 15 minutes late.

Have your tetanus shots. This place is disgusting at best. Stayed for work for a three night stay. No hot water for majority of the stay. When concern was brought up, the manager claimed to have problems with the water heater. Screams from other rooms in the middle of the night. Police escorted 2 patrons at 2am for domestic violence. Carpet ripped and calcium and rust build up all over the restroom. Once checked out I inquired about any comps for the stay, the manager rudely informs me they are the only hotel in town, if I don't like it I don't have to stay there.

Internet is super slow. Starlink is reserved for staff only.

Best wishes.

Amazing service and staff was friendly. The room was cozy and had all the basics. What more can you ask for? I'd definitely come back again next time around.

If I were to have given a review a year ago, or even 6 months ago, it would’ve turned out much different. Before the water was brown there were no phones in the room and security was non existent. The customer service was the worst. The phones went unanswered and when you talked to the employee she was rude and snippy. I have stayed in the hotel about 4 times since July 2023 and have noticed improvements every time I’ve arrived. Water is clearer and hot. However, I would suggest putting a couple of water bottles in the room along with bottles of lotion so guests don’t have to walk to the lobby to get fresh water. Phones are always answered and the service is pleasant. Rooms are updated with phones, working coffee pots and new flooring. Rooms and hallways are clean, never had problems with bugs or anything, and doors are secure with working cameras. I did witness drunks trying to book a room but was relived to see them turned away. It may not be the best hotel around but it is improving and I can see management working hard to make it better. Before I would call other places before the longhouse, now it’s the first place I call when needing a place to stay.

I was recently there on a work trip. We stayed there as it’s the only “hotel” listed. When we arrived there was a drunk guy in the lobby bleeding from his face, they were telling him to leave at least. The room was not clean. There was hair in the bed when I pulled the blanket back. Gross toilet. You cannot drink the water, I wouldn’t even brush my teeth with it, it’s brown water. Brown coming out of the sink, the toilet and shower water. Just gross. To add to that. I booked the room at a Government rate. Later I’m told by my corporate card that they charged full price. I left countless messages for the manager with no call back. After calling relentlessly, another person said they won’t refund it and “I should have paid attention to what I signed”. WOW! I didn’t pay attention as I’m checking in late at night and there commotion in the lobby with the drunk bleeding guy. Wasn’t aware that means they can rip you off and feel justified for it. Absolutely ridiculous, and I hope I don’t have to go back to that town, if I do, definitely not staying there again.

Stayed here three days while upgrading equipment at airport. It's split level, with lobby in between ground and second floor rooms. Short flight of stairs leads from front entrance up to lobby. No elevator, no problem with me lugging suitcases as I'm physically fit, but can pose a challenge for other guests. Price in accordance with typical costs in Alaska. Room clean and perfectly adequate for a normal guest's needs.

Problem - my room 201 had window that didn't close completely, missing screen; as a result, was feasted upon overnight by a horde of hungry mosquitoes. Solution - front desk staff installed window screen, which I sealed around the edges with Gorilla tape from my tool kit. Killed remaining mosquitoes one by one, room de-bugged.
Problem - nasty brownish tap and toilet water, brackish to taste. Shower water fine. Solution - front desk has a water cooler with a rack of five-gallon jugs of bottled water, serve yourself.

Positives - 1. easy to contact, easy to set up reservation. 2. Did not use handy and convenient in-house restaurant, but co-worker did, said food and service were very good. 3. Bed and pillows comfortable, slept well, no issues with cleanliness.

Negatives - 1. In-house wifi sluggish, speed varies with time of day and most likely number of users at any given time. Not perfect for streaming video or gamers, slow at times for basic office functions, good for text, such as writing this review. 2. Not really a hard negative, but room could use a few more electrical outlets on walls where desk and bed are located. Bedside wall has single outlet behind the bed, so if you want to plug in your phones to charge overnight while sleeping, you'll have to pull the bed away from the wall a bit.

Suggestion - bathing water dries out skin, can you perhaps furnish a small bottle of lotion to go with the soap, shampoo and coffee packets that come with the room? Thank you.

Writing this review for a traveler of mine. She had a horrible experience with cleanliness of rooms and service provided. This was the only hotel showing available, and at the time, seeing the 3.4 star rating on Google, it seemed fine. However, if you look closely, these were mostly all from 6 years ago. If there's no other place to go, book your traveler for an AirBnB instead. So sorry she had to put up with the indecency.
