Our week at ATA Lodge was outstanding. We were a group of three couples and everyone enjoyed themselves. The staff are friendly, will remember your name and go out of their way to make you comfortable. The lodge was comfortable, the rooms clean and the food program is solid. We enjoyed every meal and the complimentary glass of wine. But that is not why we went there. We went to fish! I chose the first week of September as my goal was to catch an oversized Rainbow trout on a fly rod. Mission accomplished. In spades. Not only did we catch large Rainbows, but four species of salmon, artic char, and many large grayling. The guides were very knowledgeable and tailored the day to try and meet your goals. This is not the best week for overall salmon fishing, but we had no problem in catching our fill. We are already planning on going back. I've been on many guided trips around the world, and ATA is my top choice. This is definitely the best lodge for for the money!

We visited ATA for the trout opener June 2024. The moment we touched down on the runway, we felt like family. Wayne & Sue McGee, and the entire Staff are incredible people who not only handled all the accommodations and logistics, but truly loved the region, history, fishery, and each other. It was very apparent. The panoramic 360 degree views from the lodge and river are breathtaking. The majority of our time was spent on the water each day. Every morning we were greeted by a jovial and enthusiastic group of guides in the marina. Always with banter. What I found remarkable was not only the fish and fishery but rather what we learned about how fragile and important Bristol Bay really is. Around each bend in the Alagnak River lies a story, historical reference, noted fish, old trapper cabins, and tales of wildlife. With the months leading up to the trip, mighty preparations were made. Flies tied. Gear and tackle prepared and organized. What I was completely unprepared for was the beauty of the landscape. The fishing was incredible. The scenery spectacular. The logistics of ATA is pretty wild too. When you stop to consider that nothing was brought here by truck on a road, it’s a marvel. I cannot imagine the workload or organization involved. It wasn’t lost on me. The choreography involved in making each guest feel special is something to behold. And you feel it everywhere - it starts when you step out of the bush plane and I’m not certain it ever ends.

Our trip to ATA Lodge exceeded all expectations. Guides Tyler and Dakota provided an unparalleled fishing experience, ensuring we caught more fish than we ever imagined. The accommodations were comfortable and inviting, making us feel right at home. Wayne and Sue were gracious hosts, adding a personal touch to our stay. The staff was exceptional, making sure we were well taken care of throughout our visit. For us Oregon boys, this was an unforgettable adventure—we can’t wait to return!

Wayne and Sue, staff and guides plus Emma are now considered my family. It was an amazing first experience and the wilds of Alaska for me and our group of five. Wildlife and fish provided constant stimulation. Shore lunch sockeye added to it along with great meals. Justin and John guided me very well all week with just enough guidance and technical teaching to make me cast better to find more fish. Having evening meals to discuss the days events with all the people attending added to the wonderful time as did the Saturday bonfire. I will be back again. I loved seeing fishing bears in a natural setting fishing better than us along with fox, golden and bald eagles etc. exceeding my expectations of a trip of a lifetime.

Although our cabin was much more rustic than a room at the Hilton - Kadena Airport, having comfy beds and a private bathroom with a hot shower at a wilderness outpost camp was a luxury. The breakfasts and dinners at the lodge were great, we liked making our own lunches from a large selection of cold cuts and cheeses, and the fishing was phenominal. Our guide (Matt) was like fishing with an old friend, and we loved fishing out of the power drifter (enough speed to travel long distances from the lodge plus the option of fishing from the boat as in a traditional drift boat). We've already booked a return trip.

My father and I had been planning a bucket list Alaska fishing trip for many years. This was my Dad’s 3rd visit and my first and words can’t describe how special this place is. The people, nature, and of course the fishing was absolutely incredible. It warms my heart knowing such a special place like this exists in such untouched wilderness, that enables us to experience everything it provides. The McGee family have formed a truly incredible team of guides and staff to make your stay a trip of a lifetime. There is a main lodge for all meals, and the side cabins are comfortable. They ensure a limited group visits each week so you get to know your fellow guests well and it feels very special. The food is awesome. On our last day we caught epic fish, saw 33 bears, and a Wolverine swimming across the river. I can’t imagine anywhere in Alaska that can provide an experience and adventure like this. What a place!

My brother, father and I visited ATA in the summer of 2024. One of my dad's bucket list trips was to fish the salmon run in Alaska.

Overall, we had an amazing trip. We caught 9 different species of fish including all 5 types of salmon. The service at the lodge was exceptional and everyone we spoke to, both employees and clients, were extremely friendly.

ATA was also one of the few lodges that could support 3 people (plus a guide) in a boat as well as spinner tackle. Our guide Justin was extremely knowledgeable and really made the trip 5 star.

I can't say enough good things about the owner Wayne, his family, and the entire group at the ATA. We enjoyed it so much that my dad is already planning a return trip next year, specifically to the ATA for grayling and arctic char fishing.

Our trip to ATA consisted of 8 lifelong friends from Maine and New Hampshire, and we could not have picked a better place to accommodate our group and to share our time with. The trip exceeded our expectations in every way, from the top-notch guides (Tyler, Matt, and Wayne, thank you!) to the unsung heroes who cooked the food, transported gear, and cleaned the rooms. The facilities were fantastic, and last but not least, the fishing experience and wildlife viewing were world-class. Many thanks to the McGee's (Jacob, Sue, Wayne and Cameron) and the whole ATA family. Special thanks from those of us who left Alaska with a few new nicknames, "P-Diddy," "Frank P. Upchurch", and "Jimmy, the Stripper". We will be back!
