Just returned from Bristol Bay Lodge for a week of outstanding fishing, hospitality, food and amazing scenery. I have Fished around the world and I have fly fished for 45 years and BBL exceeded my expectations. The location is perfect and provided access to several fishing options including opportunities when flying is not possible. Two overnight camps are part of the package and I fished one day without seeing another boat or angler. The other day I only saw the two people in my party. The guides were knowledgeable, professional, smart and accommodating. They gave me options each day as to what species and style of fly fishing I wanted to use. We were additionally and incredibly impressed with the character, work ethic, and manners of the young men who were the guides who ate dinner with us each evening on a rotating basis. The accommodations were great and the staff at the lodge was the absolute BEST anywhere we have been. Thanks , Stephanie, for anticipating everything; you knew what we wanted or were going to ask for before we did. Amazing. The owner, Steve , is on site at all times and he insured that everything went smoothly and within 10 minutes of arrival we were part of the BBL family. I chose to bring no equipment and the waders, boots and rods and reels were all top of the line. Yes, one day we could not fly out so I was taken by boat and fished. Each morning coffee was delivered to our room, hot and perfectly brewed and that has never happened anywhere we have ever been. Hopefully we will get to go back someday! Great job BBL.

This lodge is a family, and treats its guests like family. I’ve never had a stay at a location with such personal touch, and exclusive access to Alaska’s finest water. This is a premium experience of a lifetime. The guides are fun, have deep expertise, and love what they do. We met new friends and bonded over what seemed like an endless supply of fresh catch with wonderful people. This place is the real deal.

Just got back from a amazing stay at BBL. The service was great food was excellent and the fishing was off charts!. Was lucky and caught three king Salmon. The guides were very helpful and knowledgeable in the different fish we caught. We had a few weather hiccups with fog but lodge was able to keep us fishing every day. The experience of staying at outcamps and seeing different rivers every day really made the trip. I would highly recommend visiting BBL. Inside tip: Ask for the Nerka cabin. the warm fire place was beyond cozy.

Steve and team worked like dogs to provide us a great taste of Alaska!! The lodge staff of Stephanie and the Chelseas could teach a Ritz Carlton team a thing or two and I love RCarltons!! Dinners there in the lodge were exceptional (prime rib, cornish hen, filet mignon and rack of lamb all cooked perfectly!!) Relative to fishing we didn't catch as many as some reviews have mentioned (100-150 a day!?) but we caught a bunch and it was because we had great guides who were very patient. I have had flyfishing guides throughout the U.S. and Caribbean and the BBL guides were some of the very best! The Lodge rooms were fairly roomy and very clean. The Camps were more primitive. The experiences at Burch and Rainbow were "don't miss experiences" yet I would strongly recommend that management review the camp conditions as some visitors may not be too comfortable there in cold or rainy conditions. Guests at BBL should remember that this is the wilds of Alaska (not an amusement ride at Disney) and be prepared for all conditions. The DH Beaver plane trips were off the charts amazing! Thanks Steve and the BBL Team for a trip of a lifetime that I hope to repeat in the near future!!

One of the most expensive -- and worst -- trips I've ever taken. Other than the food and service at the main lodge (which was amazing), the rest of the trip was an over-priced nightmare. One of the beaver planes crashed with four passengers and a pilot on board (thank god there were only minor injuries)...but rather than being transparent about the accident, the lodge chose to not address it with a lodge-full of guests and asked the clients that were involved in the crash to stay quiet about it (according to one of the clients in the plane at the time). Talk about a breach of trust! Out of the six days of fishing on the water, I experienced motor failures on three of the days and had to wait for a replacement engine (at the Birch) or a replacement boat (both at the Wok). For what was supposed to be one of the premier fishing lodges in the world, those are epic failures that would suggest inadequate maintenance of the most important pieces of equipment. Also, out of six days of fishing, only one day was an 8-hour day. Every other day was waiting around at the lodge -- at times for hours (some of which was unavoidable due to weather but mostly because of logistical planning that left a ton of downtime during the fishing hours of approximately 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM). One of the guides said at the start of the day, "don't lose that lure cuz I'm about out" -- come on, really? On a trip where the lodge charges more than $13k/week, the guide doesn't have $2 lures (yes, lures, because we were char fishing at the Pak). During a heavy midge hatch on one of the days, a guide said he didn't have a dry fly anywhere in his box that would mimic the hatch. Again, wow, how does a fly fishing guide not have a midge in his box? Every day was like this, with the exception of one. I also spoke with many of the other guests at the lodge, and not one said they would ever come back. I have many other examples of just poor execution and service but it's just darn long to write. Maybe we just had an exceptionally bad week with a confluence of, shall we say, challenges -- but it certainly was not a good experience (and I'm not referring to the typical Alaska weather challenges that occur on every trip I take to Alaska). Just thought others should know it ain't all its cracked up to be and there are certainly better managed lodges at significantly less cost in the Bristol Bay region of Alaska.

I brought my Dad to Bristol Bay Lodge 30 years ago. I brought my wife 6 years ago, and again in June, 2021, after we were in Fla. in November and met a guide from the Lodge. It reminded us what fun we had, and our return trip was just as we anticipated: fabulous. ||||Alaska is a place of extremes. We had fishing so hot we caught on every cast, and a couple of slower days. Cloudy and rain, and sun. The constant was the hospitality and friendliness of the staff, guides and pilots, and we guarantee you will not be disappointed with the fishing and the experience.||||And, special thanks to Dawson and Mel, the outcamp cooks. The meals they produced under trying conditions were awesome, and they deserve special commendation.

We were unable to land in King Salmon with Ravn air due to fog/smoke and thus missed our flight with with Katmai Air (owned by this company) to Brooks Falls + the bus to Valley on 10,000 Smokes (also done by this company). Despite them having their own flights grounded and lots of customers needing rebooked, they worked hard to get us on a flight ASAP + made an additional private trip to drop us off in the Valley for backpacking - we couldn't believe how accommodating they were and friendly and helpful on top of everything going on! This allowed us to still do everything we hoped in Katmai despite a nearly full day delay in getting to King Salmon. Highly recommend!
