Cedar Point Yacht Club is one of the finest adult and Jr. Sailing clubs on Long Island sound - it has had and produced many national sailing champions. I was fortunate to go through the 1960s youth race sailing program - When Russ Jones was an instructor - we learned excellent sailing methods but more importantly - we learned sportsmanship.

I was fortunate to learn advanced racing from club member - Linda Jager - who went on to become North America Women's Champion - and this was a time when Ted Fontelieu was National Thistles Champion - Jim Allen was National Lightening Champion and we also had the Atlantic National Champion - - as well as many Novice, Midget and junior sailing champs. From the age of 12 - my brother, Jim Blair - a brilliant sailer - was often club champion - over even the national champion adults.

I have to confess that I hated the Frostbting program - back in the sixties we were still at the orginal location at Compo Beach at the Compo Boat basin - - the adult dads would have more in their hot chocolate than we children had - and the tears from the cold - - and no washrooms as we children were forced to be ballast in the leaking, cold super sprites was NOT fun! Hopefully this has advanced to an adult only winter fun activity -

The sailing around the sound near Cedar Point is phenomenal - and the adult and Junior weekend race programs go all summer long - every weekend. This is a great club now and historically - and the new (from 1966) location in Saugatuck Shores is beautiful
