You are probably reading this review because you are wondering whether to hire Kate & Jen. You might even be wondering whether you need a wedding planner at all. We know because we were wondering the same things almost exactly a year ago. And now we are here, on Google reviews -- which we hardly ever bother posting on -- because we need to tell you what we wish someone had told us: HIRE A WEDDING PLANNER. AND NOT JUST ANY PLANNER. HIRE KATE AND JEN.

We vacillated for weeks about whether hiring a wedding planner would mean entering into the Wedding Industrial Complex (WIC) and watching our wedding disappear under a giant fluffy mass of cutesy curlicued things, ugly flowers, and vile catered food. But finally we realized that we would not be able to host 175 people on a holiday weekend in New York City without a little help. But who would help us?

Enter Kate and Jen. In our first conversation with them, we realized that they were two very special people: competent but sensitive. Entirely grounded but also deeply imaginative. We had a vision of what we wanted our wedding to be. But we had no idea how to make it a reality. Kate and Jen understood both the vision and the reality -- and they helped us transform one into the other. In the end, it was even better than we had imagined. That's entirely due to them. To quote the email we sent them a few days after the wedding: "YOU GUYS WERE RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!!!!" They really were.

Months later, our guests continue to tell us that they are still carrying the feeling of our wedding inside them. We are too. When we think back on other "important" moments in our lives, they sometimes feel as if they didn't quite happen. Our wedding DID happen. It never had that eerie feeling of surreality or falseness that so frequently accompanies these kinds of big ceremonies.

Is this all too much? NO. It's not enough. We really feel Kate and Jen helped us put together something that wasn't just a great celebration (though it was that too). It was really a transition, a beginning: an entry into a new part of life.
