This is the worst hospital in Delaware. It proves nice facilities are only as good as the people running them. There is no reason sick people should be sitting for over 10 hours or more waiting to see someone. The person in charge of running the ER should be fired immediately for utter incompetence. They are an embarrassment to me and my community who rely on Emergency care but can’t get it due to poor management of Bayhealth Sussex Emergency room. As a hospital you have to do better. Wait times are out of control.

I cannot say more positive things about my experience in this hospital I recently broke my femur and had to be admitted for a few days. First of all the staff is amazing. Very friendly and all this helpful. The rooms are very clean. I received a private room with a beautiful view. My only complaint is the TV channel choice. Very bad selection.

If I could rate this hospital 10 stars, I would. My mother was taken by ambalance to the emergency room. The ER team was sympathetic, attentive, and got things done. They listened to our issues and took the appropriate actions. They admitted my mother in a timely manner. The PCU nurses and Dr., over shot the bar that was set by the ER Team. My mother and our whole family were treated with dignity and respect throughout our entire time. Test were done in a timely fashion; when we were told, "I'll check on that," they did just that.

The hospital uses the "My Chart" system, and my mom's "patient portal" was set up 15 minutes after her arrival.

The hospital is technologically advanced with patient management. The facility is very clean.

They have a STRICK 2 visitor policy, which is posted on their website and at the facility. They also have an 8am to 8pm visitation hours. (I have read a lot of compliments about that, funny how people complain about their inability to READ!!!! )

I DIGRESS. I would like to post a special THANKS to all the nurses, especially Paula) and Dr.s, who helped my mother and my family through this time.

Don’t go to the ER unless you are actively dying. And even then, I’d suggest trying somewhere else. The lack of department management along with the influx of non-emergency cases crowding the waiting room makes it impossible to receive adequate emergency care when it’s actually needed. Waiting for 6-12 hours to receive test or x-ray results, let alone emergency treatment, is astounding.

This is the worst Emergency room ever. First of all , the welcoming is hostile with soldiers by the entrance, they are Soo mean, rude, especially the young man ,white, who was there the night of 2/8/25;around 12am, the guy is completely rude, ignorance and not approachable. My husband addressed him as " sir" when saying hey and he responded" am not sir" anyway, my dad was involved with an accident, pain 10/10, neck and back pain, knee swollen . We brought him at 8pm , 8 hrs later, nobody has seen him.as am writing this he is not seen and still waiting. No communication. This is disgrace. And you soldiers at the entrance, anybody can get sick, be nice to the people. The only good soldier is young black man.

Story Time!

2018 was the year and my wife and I just had our second child. Everything was going well to begin with, but then it happened. The start of this experience began next day when her and I had gotten into an argument which led to some yelling after emotions ran high causing security and the in house officer to come up to our room, which I admit wasn’t our finest moment, butI had gone home for the night because I had work the next day, my wife stayed with our daughter because she was still in the NICU. Around 4AM my wife went outside to her car and was listening to the radio, then fell asleep for a short period. She woke up to the security guard knocking on the window, so she woke up and went back upstairs. No harm no foul.

The next morning my wife went to leave and go to an appointment when we was pulled over randomly as soon as she pulled out of the parking lot. Strangely the officer searched the car, but obviously found nothing. When my wife arrived back at the hospital the nurses refused to let her have our breastfeed our child saying “the security guard saw a “needle cap and a tourniquet” on the floor of her car when he woke her up and that they had contacted DFS and the police that morning so she could be pulled over and have the car searched!!!

Well the “needle cap” was the top of a pen, and the “tourniquet” was a loose phone charging cord… DFS called me and my MIL and demanded a meeting either us at the hospital so we showed up, in the meantime the doctors demanded my wife take a drug test or they would withhold our child until DFS arrived, so she…. Happily took the test, but guess what… NO DRUGS to speak of in her system.

When I arrived I was greeted by the police saying I “had a warrant”, which also wasn’t the case. I had missed traffic court the day our daughter was born and previously that morning I went to the JP court to take care of it. So the security director actually looked me and my wife up to see if we had warrants so they could arrest us.

Do you think that after all this happened and the hospital was so wrong so many times that we would get as much as an apology? NAUB, NO SIR, NOT BAYHEALTH. Be very weary about visiting this craphole of a hospital, they are quick to judgement and slow to apologize.

Bayhealth not only broke HIPPA regulations, but acted in a manner that could have gotten our child taken away because they didn’t have enough sense to ask direct questions and instead took the word of a $10/hr security guard as pure fact. No hospital I’ve ever been to has acted so sneakily, underhanded, and deceptive to their patients multiple times during a single stay. Then to not even apologize makes me sick. Bayhealth you should be ashamed of your staff and consider yourselves lucky we didn’t sue you scumbags!

If I could rate it a negative 10 I would. They didn't run test on my mom until days after she had been admitted. They put wrong notes put not ill appearing. Sent her on her way. Next day had to call an ambulance and rush to Beebe... what a joke this hospital is. Unless you want something seriously wrong to happen to whoever is going here, do not take them here. I will never go back there. Everyone working there should find a new career path because this clearly isn't the right career for you.
