My husband surprised me with a date night to watch Blithe Spirit at the Theatre Tallahassee. This was both of our first time. The theater itself was nice but a little dated. We really enjoyed the play and was funny. We really enjoyed being able to meet the actors after the play in the lobby.

We attended a performance of Funny Girl in which the understudy, Ms. Gershon, played Fanny. She was very good, an excellent voice and captured the part. Unfortunately that was the only positive part. I know that this is local theater and it gives a chance for a variety of players but there has to be some effort to portray the characters as they were in real life. Both Nick Arnstein and Flo Ziegfeld were handsome, debonair, well dressed men about town. The actors did not come close. Not so much their looks, but they did not carry themselves as if they were suave individuals. And the wardrobes didn’t help. They were ill fitting and looked like they came from Goodwill’s rejects. I expect better.

Truly a sad first experience with this theater. Due to an unfortunate schedule confusion, my family missed our show. I called the theater the following day to explain the situation, in hopes that we could reschedule. The representative on the phone was very callous and lacked any sort of empathy for our situation. This show was going to be a Christmas gift to my family. My family used to frequently attend the theater in our home town, and hoped to find a similar experience here in Tallahassee. It was a great source of enjoyment for our family and especially for my special-needs daughter. However, this first interaction has led me to conclude that we will not be patrons to the Tallahassee Theater.

I can’t even comment on a show because I didn’t get to see one due to hurricane Helene. I was told on the phone and through email that I would be issued a ticket credit and if I wanted a refund I would have to request one. I planned on seeing a show at a later date, therefore, I didn’t request one. Since the email stated a credit ticket would be issued I was under the assumption I didn’t need to request that either. Thank god I checked with the box office because long story short. My ticket was donated without my acknowledgment ,due to me not requesting a refund or a credit. In all I won’t be attending any shows held at this location and I won’t be able to experience my first play after all. I don’t even want a refund I just wanted to see a show since I paid for it. I hope this helps anyone else under the same assumption and any future guest that may experience this.

Theatre Tallahassee's Mainstage Auditorium features seating for up to 271 patrons, with handicapped seating, access for the hearing impaired, comfortable high-backed seats, and a high quality sound system. Shows performed on our Mainstage tend to be geared for large audiences and often feature lavish sets. The Studio is a small, black-box style performance space that seats up to 120. Studio productions are often edgy, niche pieces geared toward smaller, more intimate audiences. These shows sometimes contain more adult subject matter and themes. 🎭🎟

Wonderful location, lots of hard work and love goes into putting on these plays locally. Everyone in front of and behind the scenes do a great job. Highly recommend finding a play you like and supporting the local arts.
