Loved this place! It has such a history as well if you look it up on the web. The giant chess board was awesome and there was a volleyball net as well on the beach. We loved the outdoor patio dining which gave it so much to enjoy while eating along with the tiki bar for drinks. It’s truly a historic gem with a great location.

You have to understand what this hotel is to prepare yourself for what to expect. This is not a brand new high end hotel(that would cost you $1k a night for the same views and proximity to St Armand's and Lido Key). This is an old school Sarasota hotel that has been around for forever and hasn't been updated for decades...which is how the cost is so low. The rooms are dated, the bathrooms are dated. The grounds are dated....with that said, the staff are WONDERFUL. Down to earth people work here who pride themselves in top notch service to the extent they can provide it with the facilities they have to work with. I first came here as a newlywed over 10 years ago and it hasnt changed one single bit...and we are just fine with that! Everything is clean. If something is amiss, the staff will do whatever they possibly can to make sure you're as comfortable as you can be with what they have to work with. Out of ALL of the hotels in Lido/Siesta/gulf front Sarasota....the views here are the best with the walk to the beach among the closest you'll find. The balconies at night are magical to sit out and see the stars and hear the ocean. We have stayed elsewhere in the area (for 10k the cost when we felt like we wanted luxury for that trip) but nothing compared to the chill vibe and views you get from Sandcastle. They have talked about tearing down and renovating since Covid era...and at this point I don't believe it and hope it never happens. This is the last old school Florida gem in the area that is affordable for young families needing a vacation but lacking in funds to stay somewhere for 500+ per night...and for that I hope it stays! You'll find a mix of elderly regulars, young starter families and wealthy regulars who have come here for years and sometimes others in between....but even with the price being what it is, we've never had an issue with the "wrong type" of crowd you'd think a place like this would attract given the price ....never wild party's or uncouth behavior after the lights go out....always respectful guests during our stays and awesome staff to match! We are coming back after a long hiatus from tropical travels (weve been going around Europe the last couple years for our yearly vacations ) but after reading the reviews and seeing things haven't changed....we are going to make our way back to Sandcastle this summer and are so excited to do so!

First, let me say that the location right on the beach and close to the mangroves is awesome. That is why I picked this place. If you are interested in kayaking through the mangroves, it is a five minute walk to kayak rentals. The beach is amazing. ||Otherwise, this is far from a fancy resort hotel. Decor is dated, although rooms were clean and comfortable enough. Some parts of the hotel looks particularly run down, although I think there were renovations underway. There are not a lot of dining options nearby, but the hotel provides a free shuttle to St. Armands Key, which has several shops and restaurants. ||I felt like it was good value for the money so long as you know what to expect.

This resort is dated but for the price, location and service it can't be beat. I have been coming to this resort for years and enjoy each and every visit. The staff is absolutely amazing from the lobby to maintenance to the bar and restaurant. The food was excellent and the drinks were great. The pools are clean and the beach is beautiful. This resort has a charm about it that keeps me returning year after year. Hopefully after they rebuild the prices stay as low. Love the Sandcastle.

I loved the location and breakfast at the restaurant was amazing. I came fo a long weekend with my daughter who is a student at USF. I didn’t get a room facing the beach but it was a short walk to get there. I took several walks everyday and loved it. Spending time in the lounge chairs provided was nice also. Since I came by myself, the room was fine but very dated. I saw one comment about the condition of the shower and I agree. It looks gross. If I were a manager here I would spend money in the off season gutting rooms and starting over. It probably wouldn’t be worth the expense to give the outside of the buildings a facelift but the location cancels out the negative effect of the building appearances. I would stay again if it was just me but probably not for a family vacation. You just can’t compete with condos for families. I loved seeing all the wildlife too. One morning the beach was covered with different kinds of crabs, eels and puffer fish. Not sure what caused it. Some were dead some were alive. It was fascinating watching the birds have a feast.

This is a hidden gem 🤫 Don't tell too many people because the prices are great for the beach location. The rooms are super cold and the beds are comfortable. It's a basic room but everyone gets a beautiful beach view next to the Ritz-Carlton. If you're looking for a place to bring your family, this is your chance. Especially if they are under 14!

No housekeeping and very bad food service would never go back.staff were very rude paid with tour group in advance and could not get a refund. Rooms were not cleaned daily as advertised some days the maid showed up at 530 - 6 pm to tidy when we were getting ready to leave. Not organized what so ever. Complete waste of money.

Overall for the price we paid we were pleased with our stay. I would give this hotel 4/5 stars.⭐️ ||People who traveled: mom, 2 young kids under 5, grandma. All stayed in one room and were comfortable. ||The hotel is a bit date/older. If you don’t mind that I would say there is nothing wrong with the hotel. It’s clean and has a lot of amenities we thought were worth it. ||Pro’s:|Clean |Air worked good|Friendly staff|Felt safe at night (security guard escorted us to our room when we arrived late) |Free water bottles daily (unlimited) |2 pools- clean |Tiki bar with food and drinks. |Restaurant on site- reasonable prices and happy hour.|Free towels for beach and pool |Beach access steps away |Free beach chairs and umbrellas. |Friendly staff|Free shuttle into st Armand’s circle (just have to have front desk call it for you- runs a long time), also a free shuttle onto the main land- have to follow the route but can go into town to Whole Foods with it to get basic items |Fridge worked well and was big enough |Nice little balcony |Comfortable beds |Nice beaches and clean. Water was warm for us and kids to swim.|Microwave for use in main lobby |Computer for use in main lobby |Showers to use after beach |Felt safe|About a 5 min drive into st Armand’s circle. |Can Uber/lyft to airport with no issues (about $30 in Uber xl with luggage)||Con’s|No tub for kids |Older|Hotel style- doors were facing outside |No elevator||We would stay again if we ever visit lido beach again. Thank you!! 😊
