Awful tour company. We went to Lake Country in Italy, and AHI stuck our college group in an uninteresting town for the entire week, and then endlessly bussed us around with no time at Lake Como or elsewhere to visit the sites. The entire 24 of us had the same reaction: worst tour company any of us had ever experiences. Sorry to report this, but this trip was a waste of time and money-- avoid AHI.

Dangerous, reckless, entirely irresponsible tour company demonstrating a blatant disregard for the health and wellbeing of its participants. When I became visibly ill and feverish on a tour bus en route to a large and crowded museum, I asked for assistance. I was told to just sit in a chair in the museum for several hours. When I reiterated my need for assistance, I was again told to just sit in a chair in the museum’s bistro. Clear that I did not want to expose other participants to what I had (still unknown due to lack of access to any medical care), I asked repeatedly for a mask, and to self isolate during lunch. It was a painful and miserable experience.

When we finally returned to the hotel, I was markedly worse. After testing positive for COVID, I asked our reckless tour guide to inform other participants. She said she would, and never did.

When I finally received medical care on the following day (with no assistance from AHI or its representatives), the physician advised that I needed to quarantine for five days. The tour guide’s response was, “That is unnecessary.” I guess she obtained her medical degree overnight while I writhed with fever, chills, muscle aches and respiratory problems.

AHI HAS NO COVID, OR ANY OTHER MEDICAL PROTOCOLS. NO MASKS. NO MEDICAL ASSISTANCE. NO TRANSPARENCY. NOTHING.

My husband and I just returned from an AHI trip to Graz and Salzburg Austria. Our tour guide Ingrid was kind and attentive! She put everyone at ease and worked hard to answer any questions as well as assist with questions about dining and dietary restrictions! Our group became good friends and we ended up dining together most nights! AHI provided us with wonderful lectures about the history and culture of Austria and I believe that I enjoyed the trip that much more! We also traveled with guides on our bus and walking tours who shared their pride of their country and many extra details! What a relief to have all the services and details of an extensive trip taken care of so we could just enjoy ourselves! I have recommended AHI Tours to anyone who has asked about our travels! We plan to experience another tour in the future!

This review is based on AHI Travel pre-trip communication.

We booked a trip through Smithsonian Journeys, and despite paying a deposit and three follow-up calls we have not received any pre-trip information from AHI Travel. This reflects very poorly on AHI and Smithsonian, and we will think twice about using either in the future.

**Edited on 9/12/2024. Despite multiple calls this week to AHI I still do not have any information. First they blamed Smithsonian, now they are blaming their own accounting department. I keep getting told that I will have information in "1-2 days", but it never comes. The last rep I spoke with hung up on me.

A budget friendly tour company. Pre-trip we were kept informed and had good communications with our Travel Coordinator. During the trip, we had no problems and the tour director and all of the staff were very attentive and helpful. Some folks on the trip expressed displeasure with aspects of the trip that seemed unnecessary. My wife and I have traveled extensively and sometimes you need to be a little flexible.

On 2 October 2023 I paid the entire booking fee for Israel Trip arranged by my college alumni association. On 7 October a Hamas invaded. In mid November AHI offered a full refund in order to estimate the desire to travel to a war zone. The refund arrived on 29 January 2024. At least two months after the refund was offered and requested. Thank you for the timely refund.

My mother has treated my sister and I to 14 fabulous trips with AHI. The three of us have laughed, made new friends, tried new foods and have seen the most amazing sights. We had a trip booked to Croatia then Covid shut everything down. AHI kept us in the loop and we were finally able to go to to Croatia in May. Our mother was then 93, the tour director helped us adapt our trip each day so we could join the group. I honestly can't say enough wonderful things about AHI.

The level of support and communication pre trip was marginal at best we had to ask for information and continually got “oh we missed sending you the info”
This included flight info and connecting with your director once in country.

Basically it was oh I guess we should let you know stuff. Info packet came about 10 days before we departed.

Not professional at all. The saving Grace was the in country Tour Director, Jeremy was exceptional. Fun, professional, extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. The three star rating is because Jeremy saved the day.

AHI needs to pay attention to clients after they purchase the tour. This was a Smithsonain Journey and they need to check into the poor service once they hand over to AHI.
