North Point Marina is an absolute gem! We’ve enjoyed the pool all season long – it’s always clean, refreshing, and perfect for relaxing with family and friends. The staff here are incredibly friendly and always make us feel welcome. One of the highlights was definitely the Biergarten, with its fun events, live music, and great atmosphere. On top of that, the marina is surrounded by beautiful forest preserves with hiking trails and stunning beaches, perfect for outdoor adventures. It truly feels like a mini getaway every time we visit. If you’re looking for a marina with great amenities, friendly staff, and a peaceful natural setting, North Point is the place to be!

This is a great marina. Unlike other ports in the area, which are in urban environments, this one lies in a state park. Northpoint gives you the best of both worlds. One can enjoy the solitude and wildlife on the walking trails during the week, and then the weekends are filled with live entertainment at the Biergarten.

I don't own a boat that's occupying a spot in the marina, I just come by 2-3 times a year and take my family and sometimes friends for a pleasant walk near the water.

If my boys are with my wife & myself then of course they're gonna hit the playground before the stroll near the boats.

My most recent visit was on the last day of this past September but miraculously the weather was beautiful that day and hit the upper 70s.

I've always loved being near a large body of water since I grew up a navy brat living in Guam, Hawaii and Japan before my father's last duty station at Great Lakes prior to his 20-year retirement in June '91.

Even though it's a freshwater lake, you look straight out and you can't even tell the difference except that the waves are much smaller so for me it's a time machine back to my youth.

Great location to watch the boats and enjoy the waterfront. We went when there was an exotic auto show event, and had a great time. There is a biergarden during the summer hours, which is quite popular. It appears most of the folks wandering about are the owners of the hundreds of boats in the marina. If you are just visiting, there is plenty to see and do.

Drive to the south a bit on the frontage road and you'll be surprised at the lakefront sights and if you park to stretch your legs, the photo opportunities are great.

Under the new management, the Marina is definitely improving. It is getting a much needed cleanup, it is a nice Marina with kind people and nice surroundings. It has something for everyone from Boating to Beach to Wildlife and Bicycle Trails. And a new Beach going in on the South Side of the marina at Illinois Beach State Parks North Unit.

This was our fourth season at North Point. The marina is surrounded by the state park and nice beaches to the north and south. Plenty of walking trails, and for the most part quiet and friendly.
The public restroom building burnt down almost 3 years ago and has yet to be rebuilt. The private baths are, for the most part clean, except on major holidays.
Docks are in need of maintenance. The main channel coming into the marina desperately needs dredging. Sailboats with drafts deeper than 5' might want to look elsewhere.
The town of Winthrop Harbor is just so-so, with limited restaurants and shopping amenities.
We plan on staying another year, but beyond that is dependant on the management co attention to the docks and dredging
