Cabin 6 was a nice little cabin. We didn't expect anything extravagant so it worked for us.

Pros: We had everything we needed and more as far as utensils and kitchen equipment. We were very impressed!

The living room area was nice and cozy and the starter firewood was a nice touch.

Aside from the beds, all the furniture and features looked fairly new.

Cons: It was nice not to use it, but the wifi either just didn't work or the password given wasn't correct.

The tv just turned on at random times.

Very dim lighting and the beds had a cavern in the middle of them.

Out of their control, but the power went off, which meant that the water pump stopped working. We ran out of water for a bit. Maybe just something to put in the welcome manual to warn people.

Overall a nice quiet stay in a good location!

Had a great stay in cabin 3. So relaxing! Already planning our next say! Just an FYI the water is spring water. "In older metal pipes I would assume". So when you get a shower you do smell it. I always travel with drinking water and water for the coffee pot so it wasn't the biggest deal. I would recommend you do the same when planning your stay. Other then that awesome sitting in nature and staying in such a beautiful little cabin!

These cabins are lovely! My boyfriend and I stayed in cabin #2 for 5 days, at first we were worried about how close the cabins were together, but after our first night we realized its so private! They spaced out the outdoor areas really well and it was like we were in our own little world. The cabin was the perfect size and the bathroom was much bigger than I imagined it would be! Only issue we had was that the hot water had a strange smell to it, but it wasn't enough to ruin anything about the trip. We would definitely go back again to this same cabin!

Fair winds in the Forest was such an amazing stay!! Our cabin was perfect- very clean with cute decorations, air conditioner, fridge, stove, pots/pans/dishes/silverware, toaster, coffee maker, microwave, nice bathroom, cable TV, charcoal grill, fire ring, covered porch area with chairs, a picnic table, what more could you ask for? We provided all of our groceries, cooking/cleaning supplies, and toiletries. We had a few burnt out light bulbs but that was no biggie at all.The area was quiet with a nice distance between the other cabins. The Starter firewood set lasted is the whole week, but there was more for purchase at the camp site. The price could not be beat, 6 days/5 nights for under $500! Customer service was awesome with local discounts! We are in love with this cabin site and would recommend to everyone/anyone! Thank you to Fair Winds for the perfect stay!|(Sorry for the lack of pictures, some got accidentally deleted, but the website shows off the cabins very well)

Very cute cabin! Our grill was gone, so that was a bummer. Otherwise, it was absolutely lovely! Our only regret was not staying longer.

This was our first overnight in the Cook Forest area - we found Fair Winds in an online search and I was very pleased with their booking process and online communication. They truly could not have been more pleasant, extremely professional as well! ||||We received our key at the Dry Goods Shop from the sweetest woman who was a wealth of local information and left you feeling like you had a nearby family member if you needed anything. ||||The cabin was easy to find and had the cutest porch, great, sturdy door opened to the most adorable cabin! And, on a chilly day, we were so pleased to be greeted by a fire in the gas fireplace that kept us toasty all weekend! ||||We were two adults, one toddler, with plenty of room to sleep, eat, play, shower, even a back patio for morning coffee! ||||Cabin 3 was unbelievably clean. For a cabin in the woods, unreal how clean this cabin was! I brought my own sheets being a neat freak and never needed them! The place is spotless! Need to mention great hot water shower, too!!! Nothing like a great hot shower after a long hike in the forest on a cool day, then sit by the fireplace in your cabin! This place is a dream! ||||Fire pit area is great, too! Nice space with charcoal grill, picnic table, starter wood. Plenty of space here for the little one to explore. It was so pretty and relaxing behind this cabin. We kept saying we didn’t even need to leave it to enjoy our weekend! ||||We had one minor issue with opening the sofa bed and the owner himself came out- even offered us another cabin! You really couldn’t get better customer service. They really make you feel like family here. ||||It’s a breeze to book and check-out- dumpster right nearby for your garbage. ||||It’s super quiet here! It’s a good thing, but depending on your situation keep that in mind, I’d assume that for probably any camp ground or hotel though, and maybe bring a sound machine if you have a little one that goes to sleep early- however, the others were very respectful and it was pin-drop quiet here by 11 when they post quiet time. This was also an all-around quiet area, the other renters all seemed to be there to enjoy the beauty of the area - not a party vibe at all!||||This cabin, 3, was truly nicer than any hotel room we’ve stayed at and we were in the woods! ||||We can’t say enough about what a great weekend we had, how great this cabin was, and how great these people are! Everyone we talked to and met, including other renters were so friendly. Highly, highly, highly recommend Fair Winds! Can’t wait to come back!!!

My extended family gathers at Fair Winds annually. Matt continues to improve the offerings at Fair Winds. We all have our favorite cabins. Though we use Cider House as our home base for meals, etc.
Wonderful memories have been made there. Check out Pale Whale for canoe, kayak and tube rentals (you'll get a discount).

We stayed at the Black Forest Lodge over Memorial Day weekend (2017). The cabin was spacious, but that's about it. It was very rundown and beat up -- definitely not worth the $275 per night we were charged. To make matters worse, the cabin was not cleaned prior to our arrival; or, if it was, the owners have a different sense of "clean." But I generally think most would agree that quarter-sized dead bugs (which we felt obliged to sweep up in order to make our stay slightly more comfortable) should be removed as part of any exercise in cleaning.||||In addition, for one of the evenings we were there, we got some rain. Not a big deal, of course. But had we not been outside when the rain started, we still would have known because of the holes in the roof. To their credit though, the owners do provide ample pots and pans for such occasions and they came in handy that evening. ||||There were other issues, such as the upside down deer head on the wall with the joint sticking out of its mouth, and the fact that the cabin is right on Route 36 (deceptively close to the road), but that might be considered piling on. Needless to say, we won't be staying there again. ||||Finally, while I will credit the employee with whom I spoke for her apologetic response when I called to calmly make my complaints known, I was disappointed that the owners did not take it upon themselves to call me back.
