It's closed permanently. Google says this place is open 8 am to 4 pm everyday. Their website says the same. The door outside says the same. But they are closed at all hours of the day every weekend. We went there twice on our trip hoping to get some info on great things to do in Erie on our vacation and for some souvenirs. They were closed permanently. It's shocking the place run with government grants to bring people to Erie and provide visitors with some visitor info is closed at all hours of the day but this place manages to get away with it. How can you put hours on Google, your website, and even paint it on the door - but then be closed on a weekday and weekend? Some reviews say this place is open during the summer but for those of us who visit the other 9 months out of the year, we would love to have someplace to offer a local guide, maybe some maps or info, and maybe a magnet to say we visited the town. But if Erie Visitor's Center doesn't want us to say we were in Erie, and even they don't want to be open, maybe that's why tourists don't want to come to Erie. While we were there, another man stopped there too (he was from Canada) looking for something as a souvenir because so many people in town told him this was the only place in town to get authentic souvenirs. We did too. But all of us were let down when we went there multiple times and all of the doors were locked.

Don't you just love it when you go to a new place and a guide can sum up everything you've been wondering about in just a few succinct sentences that encapsulates all you wanted to know? Well, that's what happened to me. I was passing through town and only had a few minutes to grab all the salient points about what I wanted to know about the War of 1812 and the history of the area. Thank you to all the staff at Erie Visitor's Center! You guys are so knowledgeable. This place is a 'must visit' if you want to know all there is to know about Erie history, culture and current 'historical' events.

Not sure how we missed this gem on our trip last year AND almost skipped it this year but it was 200% worth the stop. Awesome informational location about not only the history if Presqle but also the variety of plants and wildlife that call this corner of Lake Erie home.

Stop on our way to the falls, it was a cold day but from what we saw, there were visitors enjoying the exhibits, we didn’t stay long but if we go back up to Erie hope to spend more time here.
