24 Diner gave us excellent diner fare at a reasonable price point. I had the Chicken and Waffle: the waffle was fluffy but not underdone, the chicken was perfect and the butter and Maple Syrup tied the dish together for a simple but satisfying meal. The 24 hash had a good portion size with well seasoned potatoes. The prices weren’t amazing but the quality of the food justified the price. I’d recommend 24 Diner if you’re looking for quality diner food.

The food looked nice, the inside was nice and clean, and some things were yummy including the fries and french toast but my steak was tough and inedible. I had to spit out every bite I took because it was genuinely so hard despite me ordering it rare. Very disappointed since I love steak and eggs. Also our server was nice (Sara F) but one of the shorter hispanic women with a round button nose was very rude and threw away the entire tables iced coffees after she said we couldn’t drink them in the diner but could leave it on a table to take with us once we finish our meal. Overall, not a great experience but maybe we just came on a busy day with bad meat.

Our first time at this Diner. I feel so bad I don’t remember our server’s name, he was so nice. He did an excellent job! My eggs Benedict plate was so delicious! Only problem was, my husband’s food was cold. It’s like, his plate was just sitting while mine was being cooked. Because the temperature of my food was warm. Other than that, love the vibes there!

This place was surprisingly amazing. Went here on a whim to get out of the heat and it was an excellent choice. I had a Bloody Mary and chicken and waffles. The Bloody Mary had the perfect amount of spice and delicious pickled vegetables. The chicken and waffles were so flavorful I didn’t even need syrup for it. I definitely recommend. The atmosphere is cute and the service was excellent. Felt like I was eating amongst friends.

West of the soul crushing I-35 and just across from the Whole Foods no one wanted, lies Austin’s least kept secret: 24 Diner. As big believers in the idea that it’s hard to mess up diner food, we were glad that 24 Diner was a step above what the average diner should be.

The good: the food was pretty hit or miss, but it hit large when good and missed small when bad. The standout of the review was a French toast with citrus creme that just pulled all the flavors together into a fun and delicious breakfast dish. The biscuit on the side was flaky and buttery as well. The breakfast platter was solid (not a huge fan of cubed breakfast potato instead of traditional hash browns). The bacon lies on the softer side but isn’t necessarily soggy. Lastly, the side of mac and cheese we ordered with the fried chicken sandwich (we’ll get to that later) was absolutely phenomenal. The perfect amount of cheesy and crust from bread crumbs, just flat out delicious.

The bad: when we say the food misses small we mean it. The chicken sandwich is extremely similar in taste to a Popeyes spicy chicken sandwich. While we do like the Popeyes chicken sandwich, it just feels unfortunate to eat something that aesthetically looks like an amazing sandwich but tastes like something I could get in a drive thru for half the price. The only other non good thing to be said about the food was that the sausage in the breakfast platter was a tad too salty, but to be fair to them that can come about from so many different things that we don’t necessarily hold it against them.

Additionally, the service was rocky. We called ahead to ask about the wait time for a party of 4 and were informed that it would be at least 30 minutes. We showed up 3 minutes later and were immediately seated. Call it a mistake or our inflated, aristocratic Yelper egos but we didn’t appreciate that at all; to us it felt like they didn’t want any extra people to come in. Also equally plausible that it was just misreading the occupancy, but I digress. When we were seated they rushed to get our table ready and forgot to include silverware, something they never noticed until we asked them to bring us some after our food had arrived. We understand that the workers are more than likely UT students trying to make a buck while being at school and we respect and don’t necessarily blame them, we are just sharing how our experience was. It is also important to note that our food came out quickly and the waiter and others were friendly.

The verdict: 24 Diner is a great diner that could use a bit of polishing on the service, but more than makes up for it with great food and a fun atmosphere. If you’re ever around North Lamar be sure to stop by.

Ok I cannot say enough good things about this place. All the staff was AMAZING, Sophia was our waitress and she was so nice. I got eggs Benedict and it was the best I’ve had. Also was avocado toast and it was delicious. My husband had waffles and a side of breakfast sausage patties. He liked it all. The waffles are sourdoughey but still good. Will definitely come back when in town again.

My friend and I came here because we wanted to try their pie. Unfortunately they were out and it seems like that’s the only good thing they have because not even the dessert was good.
The server was nice and friendly but the first set of fork I received was so nasty as well as the syrup bottle. That bottle looked like it’s never been cleaned or wiped down in any shape or form.
I will definitely not be back. It’s really a shame we didn’t get to try the pie, I’m convinced all the good reviews are from people who only had the pie…

Had avoided this diner because the reviews weren’t great but decided to give a try. It’s exactly what I want from a dinner. Food is good. Tried chicken and waffles, a cheeseburger, and French toast. All were delicious. Service was also great.
