We stayed here for one night on our way to Virginia Beach. Cecelia and Gordon were perfect hosts, we were in the "Gold Room" which was in keeping with the antique charm of the rest of the house, which is furnished with beautiful antiques, there is a fridge in the room which was stocked with bottled water and sodas and coffee maker. The bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was EXCEPTIONAL, served in the very grand dining room Cecelia had outdone herself with homemade muffins a beautiful fruit plate and eggs benedict. Gordon was very knowledgeable and informative about the area. All round this was a wonderful place to stay.

My husband and I stayed for one night (wish it could've been more) and thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful historic house. Cozy furnishings, very clean, loved the mini fridge stocked with sodas and water! But what REALLY sets this place apart are the lovely hosts. He knew all the history of the house and area. During a wonderful breakfast (she made homemade muffins and a marvelous egg benedict and fruit tray), he kept up with my coffee drinking (no small feat, I drink a lot), and engaged us in a friendly conversation that included a history lesson of the house and town. I just enjoyed it so much. I had so much fun and it was a wonderful experience.

Cecelia & Gordon were excellent host & hostess! They were very patient when I kept calling to say I was running later, and later, for my arrival. When I finally got there, Gordon helped me with my bags and Cecelia even found a nearby restaurant for me to get a late supper, just before they closed the kitchen.

The house was lovely, and my room was clean, pretty, and had some thoughtful touches. Breakfast was delicious and served with style, complete with china, crystal, and my homemade muffin was served straight out of a piping hot cloth napkin.

I had some special needs, and Cecelia & Gordon were very accommodating. My stay was for one night, only, but I wish I could have stayed longer, to relax, explore, and appreciate everything that Hillard House, and Wilkes-Barre, has to offer. I will, happily, stay here again, if ever I return to the area. Thank you, Cecelia & Gordon, for making things so easy and comfortable!

I was travelling through the area, and stayed at the Hillard House Inn. Great choice. Nice location in a good neighborhood, within walking distance of Wilkes-Barre's main drag. Hosts were highly professional, but also very personable. For those interested in seeing more of the area (I used to live nearby, so didn't take advantage of this), they know it well and are very knowledgeable about the history and culture. Definitely a great place to stay. Wonderful breakfast, as well, with great food and beautifully-appointed dining table. When next I come through, I'm definitely staying there again.

We stayed at this convenient B&B one night recently on our way from New Hampshire to Maryland. Arriving in the evening, we needed advice as to restaurants that might be still open. Gordon and Cecilia were quick to tell us of places to choose from (including Istanbul, a wonderful Turkish place where we had eaten on a previous trip) and called to be sure we would still be able to get a table. No problem! ||The house is a beautiful and tastefully decorated mansion from the 1860s. The bed was comfortable in our room, which featured the high ceilings typical of the times. ||Breakfast was terrific with Eggs Benedict, fruit, and pastries.||The hosts are friendly and well informed about local history, as they are from Wilkes-Barre. We talked at length about the coal mines that brought wealth to the area - and about the end of the mines when they flooded in the 20th century, bringing death and destruction to people's lives and livelihoods. Gordon showed us a "Davy Lamp," named after its British inventor, which replaced the canaries that indicated the presence or absence of oxygen. Both hosts were delightful conversationalists, and we much enjoyed learning more about the whole region around Wilkes-Barre and why the city's name is pronounced the way it is (Wilkes and Barrรฉ, pronounced like berry), after two members of the English parliament who voted to allow the American colonies to be free from English rule. We heartily recommend the B&B and its two wonderful hosts.

We had a lovely one night stay in the suite. The house is full of lovely details to stop and appreciate. The walls of this high ceiling house include many period prints, awards, and cross stitches. There is even a fun little elevator that took our bags up.

The hosts are helpful and welcoming. The breakfast they provided was brought out in well timed courses that let you enjoy each. Breakfast was served in darling peacock china.

Great spot to stay if you are in town for a show or to visit a college.

Lovely old house, great host and hostess, clean as a whistle with good private bathrooms and a nicely decorated common area. The dining room and food were excellent, it is the only room I have ever seen with a linen fold chair rail. You can tell that the host and hostess love this place and having visitors. Breakfast was between 8 and 10 and there are only 4 lodging rooms/suites, so they are available for information about the area and inputs as to what dietary requirements people have and what ideas for breakfast. The peach crepe is excellent and right-sized and there is also a fruit plate.

Next to the Susquehanna levees and there is a great little river walk.
We had excellent weather also, so we were able to enjoy walking in downtown where there are some great restaurants and to go to see the glacial features of the 7 tubs and the boulder field.

Our stay with Cecelia & Gordon was an amazing time. We celebrated an anniversary there and the house was immaculate and very cozy. The suite we booked was much larger than we expected and was such a great value. Our time was short as we only stayed one night. Despite this, we loved utilizing the very deep tub with the jets. My partner and I are both very tall and we were able to both sit very comfortably in the tub with plenty of room to spare! The breakfast served was delicious and we left full. I highly recommend staying here if in the area!
