The visitors center is fun and full of old vinyl records and other thrift store finds. The owners are very nice people.
The Bears Lair rentals are rustic, but quite nice. There is a full kitchen, but there isn't room service so you clean up behind yourself. Too bad there isn't a dishwasher.
Both master bedrooms are nicely setup. Plenty of games are provided to while the time away. I had no cell service here (AT&T).
The deck had a ping pong table and an area to chill and look at the redwoods. Very peaceful and serene. I will do it again.

I stayed 4 nights last week and enjoyed it very much. Sid and Kate are wonderful hosts who clearly care about their guests. The accommodations are clean, spacious, and uniquely decorated. It's a wonderful base for exploring the area. They also operate an adorable little antiques store of well-curated mid-century modern finds. I hope to return again and again.

BEWARE OF THEIR CANCELLATION POLICY! I really regret booking a room at Bear's Lair. When I made a reservation for 1 night, the charges were listed as $100 per night, plus 6% tax, plus a $15 service charge (described on airbnb as a room cleaning fee.) In addition, the cost of cancelling my reservation was listed as $0 if cancelled 7 days or more before date of arrival, and $100 if less than 7 days before date of arrival. Unfortunately, 2 days before our scheduled arrival I came down with a severe cold and was forced to cancel. Even though I was sick, I expected to pay the $100 cancellation fee since those were the conditions I agreed to. However, I was totally shocked when I received my credit card statement with a charge for $121. Not only did they charge me for the room, but they charged me the cleaning fee as well. The idea that they would charge a cleaning fee for a room that was never used seems totally unreasonable. Because I never used the room, the owners had no expense for utilities, washing sheets and blankets, or cleaning the room. I understand that they did not want to lose any money due to the cancellation, but to make an extra profit off of my illness really irked me. I contacted them several times, but they absolutely refused to refund the $15 service charge. Although I plan to rebook my trip to Arnold, I definitely won't be staying here. There are plenty of other places that have a more reasonable cancellation policy.

This was more like an AirBnB situation. Not a hotel (4 stars on Google?!). Not a cabin. Not even a even shack. But the basement of someone's home and business. Where you can hear every step they make and their loud music early in the morning.

Also, the fact that they have a hidden cleaning fee ($35) which only showed once I checked out online. To add insult to injury, they provide "house rules" and a "check out procedure" that requests the occupant to do all the cleaning THEMSELVES, else they will forfeit their "deposit".

I tried to make the best of this experience by playing the old games with my friend (because they don't have a TV). But I came away feeling VERY deceived.

I'm attaching photos of their rules. But I couldn't bring myself to take any of the inside or exterior views. There was nothing worthy of sharing.

Great place to stay in the area. Owners are super nice, easy to find, great food next door. No dishwasher though, and electric heaters take a lot of time to warm the place.
