Absolute must see if you live in Delaware or are passing through the area. Had the best guide, Patrick! His knowledge and passion for the history of this museum were both engaging and admirable. Made us want to keep learning more and prompted us with thought provoking questions which made the info even that more interesting. It was an “open cockpit day” so we were able to actually go up into the planes to see what they were used for (ie: “hospital plane,” “VIP Presidential plane” and so many more). We thoroughly enjoyed hearing stories from the men who actually LIVED it, who were waiting to tell their stories up in the planes when we walked up to/into them. It was surreal and their stories were captivating and moving. We were there for 4 hours and I still feel like we only saw half because there is SO much to see! Definitely worth going a few times to see all that they have to offer. They have a wonderful gift shop at the end of the tour with fairly priced items. Don’t forget to bring cash for a donation, as the admission and parking are BOTH free! Thank you to everyone who plays a part in the experience of the Air Mobility Command Museum! Yesterday was truly special.

We wanted to visit Delaware to say we visited Delaware. Where we are from that’s a mystery state. I ended up researching places to visit and this little gem popped up. I honestly thought it was a bunch of retired airplanes wasting away on a tarmac being goggled by a bunch of plane nerds. Even though I was kind of right it was so much better than that. The museum is literally in the country side. You will pass farm after farm. You will start to question if you made the right choice since it seems you’re in the middle of nowhere but stay the course. The Air Mobility Command Museum is on Dover Air Force Base so you would expect a lot of action but we went on a Sunday and it was very quiet. When you arrive parking is free and make sure you wear sneakers and comfortable clothes. Lots of walking and climbing. If you have mobility challenges don’t worry they have options and access for everyone. The museum is free and you can link up with a guide when you first walk in. Make sure you do because the guides bring this place to life. The free guides are what makes this visit exceptional. The history of each plane is shared and also interior access to some of the planes are only available with a guide. With that said give yourself minimal 3 hours for this tour. Without a guide you could bang it out in an hour and a half but it’s literally you just walking around looking at planes without any history or background. Our family literally had THE BEST guide ever Dave Ferguson. His knowledge of the planes was outstanding and his stories are truly captivating. I literally could have hung out with Dave for hours just listening to all his tales and we literally did. Our family learned so much and truly enjoyed our visit. This facility is a well kept secret because we basically had the place to ourselves, zero crowds and no waiting. The museum is extremely well kept and the bathrooms are very clean. The museums gift shop had very reasonably priced item and had something for everyone. There isn’t any food options at the museum so eat before or after your visit. I’m not sure if we will ever return to Delaware but if we did we would 100% come back to this museum. We enjoyed it that much. If you’re traveling to Delaware put this place on your itinerary it’s a must!!! Tell Dave we said hello!!!

The volunteer guys add to this really interesting air museum. We had a great time. The stories and information shared adds so much to the experience. Excellent exhibits both interesting inside and outside. From the WW2 to the C17s, able to climb aboard and get a first hand view of these awesome planes.

Truly a great 2-3 hours of exploring.

Thanks for the service and friendliness of the volunteers!

A unique air museum located on the Dover AFB grounds but accessible without needing to clear base security. The majority of the museum is outdoors and they have some aircraft open for guided and unguided viewing. Unfortunately for us when we were there the outdoor guides were nowhere to be found. We’ll definitely be back though to see the many unique aircraft including the worlds only C-5 on display!

Seriously, I had 5x more photos than I could post here. Most of them are for the inside of the hanger and just one for the outside planes. I posted the videos to give the best I could.

Remember, all of this is free, but donations are accepted. For a free exhibit, there is so much to see. I was here for 2 hours and I still didn’t get to read/see everything. If you just hang outside, you will just see about ⅔ of everything. Not only the planes, there is a place to sit outside or walk around to see the memorials. One you should see especially is the 9/11 memorial.

The other ⅓ is inside and really needs your time to digest it all. It showcases how much the air cargo transportation was for our wars. You will learn everything you need about the divisions that flew and dropped cargo to our troops.

You can also watch the planes take off and land at Dover Air Force Base. That is really cool to see.

Really wasn’t expecting much and was pleasantly surprised! We got to go in a bunch of different Air Force planes including Air Force two and a C5. The volunteer staff is really what made this place 5 stars. Most of them are retired Air Force and are paired up with their expertise areas. It made for some really unique and interesting conversations. 100% recommend you come here if you’re in Dover. We spent about 3.5 hours there and that was just about right since a lot of aircraft were not available for tours.

Was at The museum with a group, so we got a personal guide through the exhibits. Both the exhibits and the guide and his war stories were outstanding. Definitely a must-see place if you're visiting Delaware.
