My girlfriends and I discovered Tomahawk around the time of 2020 and found great refuge there! We've been regulars ever since! I gather that ownership has changed and we really look forward to meeting them! We had such great experiences with previous owners and staff!

The location is great and the set up couldn't be better: camping near the river, short and frequent floats so you don't have to take many things, and non-obnoxious and family friendly customers!!!

Floating with Camp Tomahawk on James River is a sweet experience. Only 30 minites from Branson, Springfield or Ozark.
Around the check-in building & by the riverside are camping spots. Our family has enjoyed the tubing multiple times with a slow, gentle current, a few small ripples, and two decent rope swings.
They rent tubes with bottoms for young children, and rectangular floats for coolers, and of course traditional tubes for adults & older youth. Rental tubes have a small rope & clip if you want to stay attached. Many spots along the river to stop off & swim.
Peaceful, enjoyable float and for the most part, people pick up after themselves. We bring an extra bag for trash to keep the river beautiful.
Put on sun protection & tube the river with family or friends! 👍 The drive through a canopy of trees is also gorgeous.

Never been to a. Worse camp ground , they forgot
To tell me to bring a weed eater, and brush hog
The smell coming from the turkey barns is horrible, tried to cook outside, to many flies also from the turkey barns, it's not a place to camp,
I have to say they do cater well to the floating crowd, I did receive a response from the Owners
(No where to go put up) Which means nothing to me, I got another response to my review today
From one of the owners, stating we have refunded you, I never asked to be refunded, another comment was come stay again remember to bring a quiet generator I just posted the truth it seems they don't like the truth

We stayed 3 nights at the begining of August and loved it there. Peaceful, right on the river and people were friendly. We felt safe so we were able to relax. A good time.

Camp Tomahawk is a GREAT place to take your family to float down a "CLEAN" part of the water. There was little trash along that section of two miles of the river that you float. We picked up one smached beer can durning our float. There was some trash on the shore that we couldn't reach bc the river was flowing too strong that day due to rain over the weekend. It was "VERY CLEAN" for the James River & I've seen worse @ other places.
They do provide trash bags for your trash during your float. They are reusable, so don't throw them away & turn them in after your float. Just ask about them before you start your float down the river.
There's a trash can for your convenience @ the end of the float before you get in that hot car/truck for your long journey home.
The kids will be asleep before you hit the main road home. At least my grandson was.

Great place for your rafting needs for kids 2 & up. I took my 4-year-old grandson & he had a blast.
There are four rope swings for the kids to play on. One swing for the younger kids in shallow water with no rapids to sweep them downstream. My grandson used that one only. He couldn't hang on long enough for the other three swings. He enjoyed it so much.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR KIDS ARE WEARING LIFE JACKETS. IT'S EASTER TO FIND YOUR CHILDREN ON TOP OF THE WATER THAN BELOW THE WATER.
You might think their a strong swimmer, but I've seen grown-ups that were professional swimmers drown in rapid rivers. I'm a lifeguard & I wear a ski belt when I float down any river. It's just better to be safe than sorry @ the end of your day. Kids can get away from you in a heartbeat if you turn your head for a split second & faster if you've been drinking alcohol. JUST BE HEAD SMART & EVERYONE WILL GO HOME @ THE END OF YOUR FUN FLOAT TRIP!

The man who drove the bus was nothing but kind to this granny, so I gave him a tip.
Tip your bus driver to & he's more app to help you with LARGE objects like a cooler or their larger tubes.
It's not going to break the bank if you throw them a $5, $10, or even a $20 for a all day float trip. If there's a group of you, then everyone throws in a couple of dollars, then you will not be out too much money for a great tip. Especially if you have their largest tube. It will wear you out taking it from the bus to the water 3 or more times as you go down the river. You will be thanking me for that tip after a long day on the water.
**"TIP YOUR BUS DRIVERS"**

Have a safe floating time like we did. We had a blast all day.

Super Fantastic!! Family Friendly! Amazingly Affordable!
This was absolutely the best camping experience our family of 5 has had.
The bathrooms and showers were surprisingly clean even during a holiday weekend! There were port-a-potties scattered throughout the campground. Campers were friendly (always waving when driving by). There is a washer and dryer in the bathhouse if needed. We had a miscommunication about electricity for our site, but it was not the campground, but our group that we camped with that the miscommunication was with. We discovered that you can actually tent camp without electricity and had an awesome time (We just bought a solar powered phone charger). Cell service is about 1 bar to non-existent. Great for unplugging and enjoying time with family. We were next to the river and had partial shade. My children ran all over the property, and I only saw 3 mosquitoes and 2 ticks the whole 5 days we camped (we used repellent). It was such a great time with family. We met the owner, and he was incredibly friendly and helpful. We did go tubing, and it was so much fun. The staff was great. The tubes can be tethered together, and they offer cooler floats. The general store is like a little oasis. There is so much to offer!

There are some things you should know:
The shower-house is two stalls in one room that can be locked. If you go during peak hours, you will probably wait in a line for a shower (but the river is always available for bathing). The gravel road to the riverside campsites from the bathhouse takes about 5 minutes to drive (10 mph), and about 20 or so minutes to walk depending on how far your site is. Stay out of the tall grass (seems obvious, but some people learn the hard way). This is the woods, there are chiggers, poison ivy and snakes... Popular port a potties do get full. We were there with a group of about 200 or more, and we were scattered throughout the RV and tent sites. I think it was the first time with a bigger group on a national holiday and there was just not enough time in the day. We live, and we learn, and we can all show a little patience in such circumstances.

We enjoyed our stay at Camp Tomahawk. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The bath house and restrooms are very clean. The James river is a gentle river and perfect for inexperienced and young floaters. The river scenery is beautiful and we saw two bald eagles flying over the river. Great experience, definitely coming back.
