The dietary department at Health Care Service Group is a disaster. They go through managers like socks, and the ones they do hire have no idea how to run things. Instead of hiring qualified staff, they’ll take anyone, regardless of whether they’re capable of doing the job. This leads to constant mistakes, poor teamwork, and an overall mess of an operation. The lack of leadership and accountability makes working here frustrating and exhausting. The worst part? Drinking and 420 friendly on the clock, both staff and managers openly talk badly about residents behind their backs, showing zero respect for the people they’re supposed to be caring for. On top of that, the food they serve isn’t even decent—it looks like scraps thrown together with no care for nutrition or quality. Half the time the correct food isn’t even available. Openly deny residents simple items. It’s heartbreaking to see residents being treated this way. Avoid this place at all costs, sincerely a former employee from Rhode Island .

HCSG is horrible. I worked in laundry at one of the facilities they are in charge of. I could go on and on and probably list over a hundred reasons why they are completely incompetent but, here are a few of the big ones….. We ran out of supplies constantly and would run the washing machine with no detergent or bleach. The machines also break constantly because they are too cheap to buy new ones and they buy refurbished machines that are 20+ years old. It takes them months to get a replacement machine in when one breaks. We had a 100 bed facility and they would run it on only one washer or one dryer for months. When one washing machine breaks, we are told to wash everything in the working machine and to put it on an 8 minute setting that is meant for items that aren’t soiled. The linens still smell like human waste even after being washed I. That 8 minute cycle. I refused to do it. They ran the laundry room for weeks with a non working hot water heater. They also try their hardest to deny you the paid time off you have earned. They have an employee portal that has payroll info on it and there is nothing In that portal that tells you how much paid time off you have earned. I once wrote HR and asked for this info and I was told to ask my manager, after I had already been asking him for weeks, with no response. I knew people who had worked for them for years and they were still making minimum wage. Their time clocks also dock your pay, so you have to keep track of every hour you work. They work with a daily pay app but there were many times that your hours aren’t reported to the app until payday so I don’t know what the point of having daily pay would be, if your hours aren’t being reported to daily pay, anyway. All of this is just in the laundry room, never mind how they run house keeping and food services.

I use to work there. I liked working there but I got myself terminated there. I later found out I was wrongfully terminated and some of the reasons why I got terminated were lies. I been trying to get my job back by reapplying but my application status sometimes says under review, or it gets ignored or they tell me they are pursuing other candidates. They can't keep housekeepers there that is what my job there was a housekeeper. It's a revolving door, they can't keep housekeepers not sure why they can't keep housekeepers there.

Worked for a Bronx facility for a blip of a moment but quit due to the rude management. One manager nods off in the middle of the interview, during training, while he stood up , he nods off and sweats profusely. He calls your phone screaming and hollering as if he was legally able to do so. He apparently doesn’t know about labor laws. For the amount of work and effort that’s expected from the staff they sure do underpay the workers. For 16 an hr they expect a 25 an hr job.

I’ve worked with healthcare services Group for 3 years, I was recently Terminated by Nikki Mattingly who had been in the building all of 2 weeks at the time. I was terminated following a meeting she and her boss had held with me they were rude from the time I walked in the door until I walked out! I walked in saying Jesus! And the first thing My Managers boss said “Jesus what does he have to do with it” i said huh because he completely caught me off guard he proceeded to tell me “what does he have to do with anything” as he leaned back in his seat my manager is sitting right next to him smiling! In my termination paper it says I interrupted her several times! I interrupted her once because she had lied and I wanted to nip that in the bud! her boss made it clear that I wasn’t to interrupt her again so when it came time for me to talk and I was interrupted I asked him for the same respect he was giving her but of course as he stated “I’ve known her for a long time she’s telling the truth” The whole entire meeting I was Belittled and looked down on! I don’t know if it because I look like a baby, the color of my skin or simply just because I said Jesus! They Both failed to let me know I was terminated! The next day i came into work she said I was trespassing! My termination paper looks like “The Angry Black women” I assure you I am much more than that! I was very professional until they both were unprofessional with me. When picking leaders of your company I would hope you would want them to have compassion, communication and leadership when Managing Grown adults.

I learned about Health Care Services thru Shenandoah Nursing Home in Charles Town WV. They are the organization that handles their food services. I gave Shenandoah a five star review last year; but had to return this year (2025) and gave them a 3.5 - 4 star due to their food services. Health Care Food Services has had the worst food I have ever had. It has gone down hill from last year. Mind you it's only been less than six months when I was here. The food has no taste. It seems like they just slap the food on the plate. The trays and dishes are not clean. I have had to use plastic utensils to eat with. If I get a drink in a small glass I use a straw to keep from putting my mouth on the glass (but trust and believe I check out the glass first before I drank). I have a small dog that comes here to visit me. Last Sunday (1/26/2025) for lunch they served something that was supposed to be cheese pizza like? Mind you my dog loves to eat just like her owner. I threw her a piece and she wouldn't eat it. Well if my dog won't eat it neither will I. What your organization fail to realize is that we are human too. Just because we are in a nursing home does not mean that we're not in our right frame of mind. You get some staff who think they can serve you anything and no one will complain. Well Health Care Services, I'm complaining. Your food service staff at Shenandoah nursing home is the worst ever. If this is how you represent yourself you are doing a poor job of it. We are people too!!!!! I hope they cancel your contract because somewhere in there you guys lied. Servicing healthy food or even food you can eat is something you're not doing.

Jess at Edgewood Manor of Wellston does an amazing job at keeping that place beautiful! The floors are so shiny you can see yourself in them. I have never walked into a facility that didn’t have a smell. She does an amazing job keeping it smelling fantastic! Why isn’t she a regional already?!?

I worked for this company and I had someone do something inappropriate( a coworker not a patient) and my boss said to sweep it under the rug. When I told my regional (my bosses boss). What happened and why I was quitting she said “we don’t care you should be at work” so never ever work this place unless you wanna get underpaid and mistreated. I feel bad for the other employees still working there.
