Getting off the beaten path now and then can lead to interested things sometimes. As did when the wife and I were making our way home from a simple vacation. I decided to get off the major interstate and take the paralleling state road when I ran across a sign that read “Kinmundy Log Cabin Village”. With a little interest I decided to see what it was. Well I'm so glad I did. What an incredible place. We actually got to talk with one of the caretakers. He gave us a small amount of history about a woman’s dream of preserving log cabins from the 1800s. We saw several from the outside and I actually got some incredible pictures of the inside through the windows. They have 12 now that are pretty much put back together and several more needing to be re-erected. See these incredible pieces of history have to be disassembled and reassembled in their new location. This can be painstaking work. It's all non for profit and volunteer workers doing this. Most might turn there backs and let this part of history vanish from the face of the earth, but not the few who feel the need to showcase the history of our great ancestors. Show love here people, they only charged $5 admission for their festival in September, a small amount to help preserve such magnificent creations, our foreFathers built these and raised their families in them.

It was the festival for the Log Cabin Village. Lots of crafts, vendors, food. Great things for the kids-pony rides, rope making, face painting. The pioneer village buildings were very interesting and the people in period dress were very informative. Family fun, for sure.

We contacted the caretakers for a visit since we were in town out of season. We have such great memories from elementary school field trips here, so it was great to return as an adult. I hope this place continues to thrive for many years to come.

My family and I have been coming here since I was a child. We love walking through the woods and eating kettle corn. The cabins are well preserved and decorated. Some cabins even have a person dressed in time period specific clothing, telling about the history of the cabins and families that have lived there.

The haunted village was a lot of fun. They did an amazing job. However, if you suffer from any form of unstable footing while walking, be cautious. The path is not very well lit, which is great for the "scare factor," but it is challenging in the dark. Can't wait to go back next year!
