Nice beach. lots of shells. $20 to get in, which is a little too much for what it has to offer. Nice place to get some video shots and record some ambiance audio. Maybe another beach would be better but not terrible.

Take a quick escape to sea these waters. Grab a chair and maybe an umbrella. This is the perfect place to relax. The views will not disappoint.

Hit or miss, the town does not rack this beach so there are a LOT of slipper shells. This in turn makes the beach smell of decay and attracts flies. If you don’t live in town, avoid paying to get in. Go to short beach instead.

Be aware that there is nesting wildlife outside of the main beach, and that dogs are not allowed in the area. You yourself will need to be careful where you step as there are chicks that may wander onto the path or along the beach, and they can be difficult to see

As you walk down the beach you'll have Long Island Sound to your left and Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge to your right- a salt meadow that is absolutely stunning. The spit of land that you're on is only a few dozen feet across, but extends quite far- with the trail going all the way to Pleasure Beach. I would recommend bringing water if you're intent on making the trek and happen to be less impulsively foolish than I was.

Beach has nothing to offer other than a handful of sand and thousands of sun bleached shells, in my opinion isn’t worth spending $40 to enter as an “out of state resident”. Definitely more relaxing than other beaches in the area, but that’s probably also because, it offers nothing.

The 63-acre Connecticut peninsula comprising Pleasure Beach and Long Beach connects to what is now the town of Stratford. In 1887 a section of Long Beach was sold by the town of Stratford to Walter Nichols. Nichols built an amusement park on it, and sold it for a handsome profit to two millionaire brewers who christened it Pleasure Beach. In 1895 a brochure for the park enticed visitors with the promise of a skating rink, miniature railroad, arcade, roller coaster, merry-go-round, 5000-seat coliseum, and a bicycle racing track. By 1905 the park had beautifully landscaped gardens, a Ferris wheel, the Razzle Dazzle funhouse, a bandstand, a vaudeville theater, a toboggan ride, and more.
