This review is more about Petaluma, CA, the town, than the visitor center. I did get the attached map of the historical walking tour from the visitor center. Petaluma is a small historic town. I loved the old buildings and the shops. We decided to go to Petaluma because I love history and little western towns. Also, it is the location where some of American Graffiti and Peggy Sue Got Married was filmed. If you love books like I do stop by Copperfield Books.

So glad that this visitors center is there. It makes sense and is very helpful. Especially for people who use the SMART Train. What’s confusing is that so much of Petaluma at the moment seems to be in transition. It’s an old town, lots of old buildings that need renovation. and, it looks as if its rural agricultural past is merging with a high-tech future, as is most of the nation, if not the world. What strikes me is how underutilized the visitors center is as well as the adjacent arts center. I’m glad that officials decided not to tear down the old train station. But I question the planning and efficiency. The nearby bus mall is also underutilized. Europe and Asia are far ahead of us in terms of transportation and infrastructure. The United States is among the wealthiest countries on earth and yet we Americans still don’t “get it!” The SMART train is great! I hope that all continues to go well for it. And, that officials and planners realize transportation and amenities like this are very needed. And at least by this reviewer very much appreciated.

Pass thru on our daily/nightly walks, almost always something cool going on with the art center there that we get to check out as we walk by. Plus all 3 of us LOVE trains so that is definitely the best part! Smart train is cool i guess but the freights are obviously tha most exciting!!

After all the stops we've made here we finally came by at the right time: they are open on Sunday afternoons. Need a local map? Or a brochure describing activities nearby? Or upcoming community events? This is the place for you!

The two volunteers we met today were more than happy to tell us about their center and the town, even after we told them my husband's parents only live a few blocks away. They also provided us with an interesting pamphlet of D Street history.

It's a wonderful visitor center, whether you're a local or just driving through. If you're nearby on a Sunday, stop in and ask for some fun, free info.

Bring your electric car and charge it at the station in their private parking lot. And be sure to stop at the wonderful art gallery next door before you hit the road on your Petaluma adventure!
