Our stay fell well short of expectations, especially for an Autograph Collection property.

We booked a misleadingly named “King Suite” with a “city view” on a higher floor, which was important to us while in town purchasing a downtown high rise condo. At check-in, I confirmed the details and was told yes, but the room we received had no “city view”, was on a lowest floor, and wasn’t well cleaned. The bed wasn’t a king and was very uncomfortable — both of us woke up with back pain, which is unusual for us and not what we’ve come to expect from Marriott.

Breakfast vouchers we had prepaid for were initially “missing,” and my husband was treated rudely at the front desk. Only after calling were the vouchers located.

We also had an issue with valet not checking us out properly, resulting in an incorrect $10 charge on my AMEX. The manager’s follow-up placed blame on their third-party valet company and promised a refund, which never came. I ultimately had to dispute the charge through AMEX. Charge was immediately refunded.

We paid $1,415 for four weekday nights. For that price, the room quality, service, and experience just were not there. I wish I had read the reviews beforehand. Mistakenly trusted Marriot’s brand.

I’ve advised our real estate agent at Piatt Sotheby's International Realty and future visitors - definitely book elsewhere.

Extremely Disappointed – Not Worth the Price or the Hype

Our family invested a significant amount of money booking multiple rooms and an event at this hotel, expecting professionalism, hospitality, and basic accommodations in return. Unfortunately, we were met with the exact opposite.

The elevators are shockingly small and slow for a property of this size, which caused delays and frustration throughout our stay. Despite paying for the lobby space and ordering food through the hotel, we were denied the ability to purchase additional food—even when we offered to pay out-of-pocket. Meanwhile, we witnessed multiple guests bringing in food from Uber Eats and DoorDash, despite the hotel’s claim that “outside food isn’t allowed.” The inconsistency and lack of fairness were blatant.

Requests for basic items like towels and blankets were met with unreasonably long wait times, and the rooms themselves lacked sufficient drawer space for guests staying more than a night. For the price we paid, the experience fell far below even modest expectations.

We expected more from a hotel charging premium rates, and what we received was poor service, inflexible staff, and policies that were both unclear and unevenly enforced. We will be sharing our experience widely to help others make more informed decisions—if you’re headed to Pittsburgh, do yourself a favor and avoid this hotel.

We had such a wonderful stay at the Industrialist. Our junior suite was a great place to relax. |We especially wanted to call out our valet, Jean, who was so kind and made sure to say hello each day. Interacting with pleasant and kind staff always makes a trip that much better.

A friend and I stayed here in December after a girls night out. The building has beautiful architecture which gives it a great historic vibe in the entrance and lobby... however the rooms are very sleek and modern with industrial fixtures. ||I loved that they had a "pop-up" bar adjacent to the front desk that is decked out in different themes for the different seasons. Since I was there in December, it had a vintage Christmas theme. The cocktails were creative and delicious and the bartender, Blaise, was so friendly and hospitable. ||The location is great with it's close proximity to Market Square. I would recommend giving this hotel a try the next time you're in Pittsburgh!

This hotel was a great experience. The location was good with walking distance to most things (Pittsburgh is fairly small) and really comfortable. The two front desk people working on Saturday evening were exceptional. We had an issue with our room (see below) and she was quick to offer us not only a different room, but an upgrade as it was available and a much better suited room for us. Whichever team was working Saturday evening (Feb 15), deserves recognition for their customer service. The building is quite pretty and renovated in a way which still allows many of the architectural features to come through. Also, great gym space! Our room (again, see below) once switched, was really great. Small sitting area, great views, large bathroom and a comfortable bed!||Here's where it fell short however. When I booked my King Corner room I was excited as the room online showed a desk area and a larger space. When we got into our room, my partner and i could barely even walk past each other as it was that tight. When i went online I checked out reviews and saw a King Corner room with a desk area posted by another reviewer and it was much larger. I chatted with the friendly staff mentioned above and she mentioned that not all King Corner rooms are that size. They tend to get smaller as you go up in floors due to the architectural nature. Totally get it, however not labelling this on the website isn't acceptable. If i'm paying the same price for a corner room that's much larger than mine, that doesn't seem fair and needs to be a part of the booking process. I've stayed in many older converted buildings and understand rooms can vary, but compared to other King Corner rooms, this one was quite smaller and shouldn't be the same price (regardless of higher floor view). Please disclose this when people book.||Having said this, I'd still return, i'd just select the room i was upgraded to and not the one i had previously booked.

I'm not quite certain how this hotel meets Marriott standards! It's not clean... the lobby, the elevators, the rooms... all dirty. The whole place needs a good scrub down! Staff is far from helpful and rather indifferent. The valet guy was clearly "on" something and obviously needs a reminder that this isn't the Days Inn. Never again. We moved over to the Renaissance for our 2nd night...beautiful and clean!!!

A part of the Marriott autograph collection. Historic building. Great downtown location. Reception is on 2nd floor and no luggage assistance. Rooms are small but clean and fairly quiet.Hotel bar/restaurant is on ground floor. Valet parking available but not complimentary.

Jean is great! Best valet in Pittsburgh. Always conversational and asks if there is anything else he can do. My car is always ready on time and never have any issues. This is also a great property if you are looking for a place to stay in Pittsburgh! This is the only place I come to when I stay in Pittsburgh!
