I treated my 9 year old grandson to his first fly fishing guide and instruction with Mark Swenson. Mark was phenomenal. His instruction, knowledge and ability to connect with my grandson made this a day he'll always remember. I also learned so much from Mark's instruction and it has inspired me to return to the river more often. I would recommend Mark to anyone but especially how he can communicate to kids. He is top shelf!!

Great place to get advice and fly fishing gear. I bought my first “beginner” rod and reel combo for $180 and with their advice on the right fly for fishing the Farmington river nearby, I almost caught a fish. I say almost because as I was reeling it in, it took my newly purchased fly and flew! Rookie mistake in tying the fly on the leader. Next time!

This is a great fly shop. Grady runs a great business and is also a nice guy. Joey and Jake were really helpful getting me get outfitted with some Simms waders and I also wound up trading some older equipment in for one of the new Diamondback euro rods. If you’re in the area, stop in.

Great shop! Kind attention from the owner! I came from Argentina and get a great deal in a mint condition used rod and a brand new reel. Best price buying a Simms wader than other bigs shops! For sure I’ll return to the shop in future’s visit to CT!

Had a guided Flyfishing trip on the Farmington River with Mark Swenson and was outfitted at UpCountry. Had a wonderful time on the river and Mark was a superb guide. Made a rank beginner feel comfortable with the river and with the knowledge needed to become better. Had a great time at UpCountry, and even heard some great stories about Ithaca in the 1970s with lots of local sports heroes. Can't wait to go back!

I walk in the store and no one greets me, not a big deal. Staff were talking with each other. Figured they would finish up their conversation and then be attentive. I’m looking at new fly lines for a while, figuring someone would come over and ask me if I was all set or needed any help. Still nothing. Staff is talking to each other not paying attention to the customers. Then I’m walking around the store looking for leaders and can’t find it right away so I do two laps, for sure they gotta see me and ask I need any help, huh. Nothing. It was just a weird experience and I was hoping for a friendly shop interaction and got none of it. Next time I’ll buy online.

Awesome little store with a nice selection of products and even better customer service. Their knowledgeable staff are fantastic at helping even the most novice fly fisherman get on the water and land trout. I am very grateful for their recommendations on spots to try and fly patterns to use.
